Temporary contemporary proudly presents Action 58 by Reza Aramesh, a new work specially commissioned for Event Horizon at GSK Contemporary, Royal Academy of Arts, London.

Five soldier-actors will be stationed on the streets surrounding the exhibition at 6 Burlington Gardens. Carrying placards emblazoned with the words A WORLD WITHOUT BORDERS, they lay siege to a site potent with artistic and financial meaning. Examining the historical context of patriotism and its link to territorial imperial power, this street occupation and poetic-political composition utilises the rich visual and symbolic associations of the area, unleashing overlapping layers of narrative in an act that is both representation and catalyst for new trajectories and realities.

A conflation of the military and militancy, Action 58 actualises the paranoia and desire for protection embedded in the environs, of the military as a territorial signifier and financial protector. Tinged with a surrealist amour fou driving the visions of the political protestor, this incision is a poetic proposition enmeshing itself into the fabric of the real - a forceful vision of breakdown, desire and transformation.

Event Horizon is curated by temporarycontemporary (Anthony Gross & Jen Wu) as part of GSK Contemporary, Royal Academy of Arts, 6 Burlington Gardens, London. The exhibition runs from 31 October 2008 to 19 January 2009.

GSK Contemporary is a Royal Academy exhibition supported by GlaxoSmithKline. Event Horizon is further supported by The Henry Moore Foundation and Arts Council England.
