Giving Nation has a team of four and works within the Participation and Social Action unit at the Foundation. It is a programme aimed at 11-16 year olds that has been designed to encourage more young people to participate in charitable activities (including volunteering and social enterprise) and to recognise the value of voluntary social action.

Giving Nation supports the PSHE/Citizenship curricula at Key Stages 3 & 4 across the UK. It aims to build on the work that schools already do with charities ensuring that schools gain maximum educational benefit from such work whilst encourage pupils to reflect upon the value of those activities.

Giving Nation communicates with young people in 3 key domains: within secondary schools and alternative education settings, in youth media, and through the internet.

The role

The main purpose of the role is to provide schools nationally with support in accessing and using our projects and resources. The role also provides key support on school recruitment; communications and website development.

Giving Nation School Support

You will be responsible for providing general administrative support for the Giving Nation team, this will involve:
- Coordinate and at times support Giving Nation outreach staff activities and diaries for delivery of targeted school recruitment. This may involve limited school support onsite including school visits and teacher training.
- Research and at times support Giving Nation presence at trade fairs, seminars and exhibitions to ensure the programme is professionally and attractively presented
- Identify good case study material from our schools nationally to promote best practice and programme uses and successes
- Conduct school/teacher research to assist with the evaluation of the programme, projects and resources
- Other activities which generally support the work of our schools or the Giving Nation team as agreed with your line manager


Administration and Database Management

The School Support Officer coordinates the administration for Giving Nation including the management of our database and suppliers.
- Provide the first point of contact to all teachers and schools using or accessing our programme via phone, email, our website and (where necessary) in person
- Database management including the responsibility to maintain all records, make updates, clean data (where necessary) and manage reports
- General administration for the programme including supplier contact and procurement; frontline support on the phones and email; processing grant applications and managing programme mail
- Stock and resource coordination of all resources, teacher tools and merchandise products - reporting on stock levels and coordinating any necessary reordering
- Oversight and support of interns and volunteers (from time to time)

Marketing & School Communications

The School Support Officer plays a key role in delivering communications to schools nationally including:

- Responsible for website management to ensure content is accurate, lively and engaging. Liaise with web developer and team to gain updates.
- Coordinate group e-mails, faxes and hard copy mailings to project participants
- Present ideas on activities to help boost school recruitment and retention. Should include identification of good case study material, blogs, articles or stories for use in our web, email and print communications with schools and other stakeholders
- Assist in the coordination of annual awards event and PR
- Input to the design of marketing campaigns for Giving Nation and the delivery of the campaigns and initiatives to help drive school recruitment and retention
- Coordinate the design and production of the annual Giving Nation Wall-planner (during the summer break for mailing in early September each year)

Organisation Wide

- Represent the Citizenship Foundation at external meetings, conferences, public forums and events when required
- Contribute to disseminating best practice and promoting education for citizenship where appropriate
- Respond to queries about the work of the Citizenship Foundation and citizenship education in general, from teachers, youth workers and other individuals and agencies
- To actively participate in own supervision sessions and appraisal, review and planning sessions and other meetings including one of the Foundation's working groups
- To carry out all the above duties in liaison with line mangers and staff and in accordance with Citizenship Foundation policies, procedures and guidelines
- Any other duties as might be reasonably required
