Warner Bros. International Television Production seeks a Legal Assistant for the Legal & Business Affairs department. The department provides support to the WBITVP- s local production, licensing and acquisition businesses worldwide, including Europe, Asia and Latin America.

This position is focused on providing legal and other support for the department including, drafting and negotiating format license agreements regarding the development and production of local versions of the Studio- s formats or acquired third party formats, both scripted and non-scripted.

The position works in a team based in London consisting of: (1) Director, Legal & Business Affairs; (2) Counsel, Legal & Business Affairs; and (3) the candidate as Legal Assistant. The team is part of a larger team of lawyers within the International Television Division that are based both in London and Burbank, California.


1. Draft various contracts from standard forms, negotiate (under close supervision from the Director, Legal & Business Affairs), conclude and then track contracts at various stages of execution, including format option and format license agreements, format acquisition agreements, confidentiality agreements, competition and contest agreements and other related agreements, deal memos and other required documentation.
2. To draft consultancy agreements, development agreements and ancillary legal agreements such as non-disclosure agreements and other related agreements.
3. To conduct due diligence on potential licensees and local productions to ensure compliance with applicable anti-corruption laws including the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and the UK Bribery Act.
4. Support the protection of the company- s intellectual property, including drafting cease and desist letters to infringing producers/broadcasters and track responses.
5. Draft and assist with any necessary legal filings such as WBITVP- s Format Registration Procedure (FRP).
6. Analyse format license agreements and related agreements (including underlying rights agreements) to provide rights availability, holdback and other related information to sales department.
7. To research and provide other support with respect to the clearance of current and library television formats and programming and other underlying rights issues.
8. Provide general office support such as maintaining and organising the department- s master files of signed agreements; oversee submission of outside counsel bills and other invoices for payment.
9. Draft and prepare contract summaries for senior management.
10. Assists with Company and departmental projects and/or initiatives.
11. Performs other related duties as assigned.


- Excellent academic credentials required.
- Law degree or equivalent required
- Ability to speak a European language strongly preferred but not required.
- Competent in Microsoft Word, Outlook and Deltaview.

Relevant Previous Work Experience

- Previous in-house or law firm experience required.
- Previous experience in the media industry required, preferably in the production, format licensing or acquisition sector.
- Previous experience in dealing with international businesses preferred.
