Senior Research Associate

Posted on: Monday 21 October
Posting no: 1334995811

The Railway and Transport Strategy Centre at Imperial College London is a semi-commercial research and consultancy unit providing advice to over 60 transport operators, authorities and governments throughout the world. We are a growing, multidisciplinary team of people from both industry and academia. A large proportion of the work is funded by international consortia of rail, metro and bus operators such as CoMET (the Community of Metros) and the International Suburban Rail Benchmarking Group.

To support our growth, we are seeking to attract a new Senior Research Associate that will bring their skills and knowledge of the rail industry to manage international projects and play a key role in the growth of the RTSC in existing and new research and consultancy markets.

The post involves managing and carrying out strategic research and consultancy projects for rail and metro systems, often employing comparative analysis to support advice and recommendations for senior management. You will use your expertise and gain exposure to the many facets of railway and metro management at both a technical and strategic level, dealing directly with senior figures in the industry.

You will have experience and knowledge in the provision and/or analysis of railways, metros or light rail, gained in one or more functional areas such as railway economics, planning, policy, regulation, engineering, technology, safety or operations. Due to the applied nature of work and industry focus, applications are encouraged from practitioners and consultants in the rail and public transport industries, as well as from academia.

You must be educated in engineering, transportation, economics, or a related field and be strongly analytical. Effective communication and presentational and skills are essential.

Fluency in written and spoken English is required and an ability to speak foreign languages would be an advantage. You must be willing to travel for short durations.
